Kombucha is a sweetened tea that is fermented with a SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast) to become one of nature’s best health elixirs. Consuming this tea has been associated with many different health benefits. Studies done in Russia suggest Kombucha will improve the digestive system, boost the immune system, prevent cardiovascular disease, improve resistance against cancer, and reduce inflammation in the body.

Kombucha contains various minerals, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, B12 and vitamin C.

The fermented tea contains a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and probiotics. Probiotics (meaning “for-life”) are healthy bacteria in the gut that help to promote better overall health. According to Harvard Medical School, a healthy gut has over 100 trillion microorganisms from 500 different species. Due to the overuse of anti-biotics and the consumption of processed foods that wreak havoc on the digestive system, most people could benefit from consuming probiotic rich foods.

Other foods that contain probiotics include Greek yogurt, miso soup, kefir and sauerkraut. Probiotics can help with anything from indigestion, anti-biotic related diarrhea, Crohn’s disease and candida. It is also said to be beneficial in combating sugar cravings.

The taste of kombucha will vary depending on how it is brewed and what it is brewed with. It generally has a bit of a sweetness and a bit of a tangy taste to it. It is somewhat similar to Apple Cider Vinegar drinks. Since it helps to detoxify the liver, make sure you drink lots of water along with your kombucha. Kombucha tea comes in a variety of flavours including Blueberry Maple, Mint & Chlorophyll, Ginger, and Hibiscus & Rosehips. Click here to order your Kombucha today!
