If you’re living in #HAMONT and haven’t had a chance to try De La Terre Bakery’s amazing sourdoughs and baked goods,
you’re seriously missing out.

De La Terre, located both in Vineland, ON and Jordan, ON is a local bakery specializing in artisan breads and baked goods. Their ingredients are locally sourced from sustainable agriculture practices and their flour is purchased from small independent farmers whenever possible.

The fresh baked sourdough bread from De La Terre originates from a 10 year old starter. It is the same one that has been used since the opening of the bakery. There are 4 different batches that come from the starter; whole wheat, Niagara, spelt and another specific to baguettes. The starters contain a bacterial component called Lactobacillius hammesii. Unlike other sourdoughs, which use Lactobacillius sanfranciscensis, L. hammesii produces a powerful anti-fungal component as it digests the flour. This not only allow for a preservative-free loaf, but it also improves the taste of the bread. L. hammesii, is also said to improve the digestibility of the bread. Some individuals suffering from gluten intolerance and celiac disease may actually be able tolerate this type of sourdough.

The baking is usually done between 3:00p.m – 10:00p.m. and is done on location at the bakery. The sourdough is folded several times before shaping in order to give it strength and shape. The loaves come in a variety of different flavours (and they are all equally amazing!) Flavours include; Walnut Honey Sourdough, Niagara Sourdough, Potato Sourdough, Multiseed Sourdough, and more. Along with their bread, De La Terre also makes some amazing pastries. Try their croissants, date squares, cookies, pecan squares, spinach pies and other delicious baked goods for a snack or dessert.
